Pre-drilling may be required to achieve minimum pile lengths, aid penetration through dense soil layers, to seat piles into the underlying rock stratum, to clear obstructions that can impede installation of driven piles to design elevation.

McKinney Drilling’s extensive fleet of rotary-style large diameter vertical boring equipment allows us to readily mobilize pre-drilling and piling rigs to complete both operations under one contract. We also undertake open hole drilling alone for deep foundation completion by others.

Common Uses

  • Pre-drilling for structural support element installation by others
  • Pre-drilling for obstruction removal/remediation

Technical Details

The pre-drilling procedure is as for drilled shaft installation. A hole of the required diameter is augered to the required bearing stratum or design depth, cleaned out, and inspected. Installation of reinforcement and placement of concrete to complete the foundation element is accomplished by others.
