McKinney Drilling Company believes it has the moral and ethical obligation to ensure that each of its employees returns home safely each day. It is our mission to provide all employees with a safe working environment, proper training, support and supervision. We believe that Safety belongs to each and every employee…..Starting at the Top.
Bill Maher, President
Safety has always been an important part of how we go about our work and never more so than today. To promote safety for our colleagues and others impacted by our work, we have adopted the Keller Safety Framework. This is a system which links together different aspects of our safety management, including our Safety Goal, Principles, Policy, and industry standards.
Our Safety Goal
The construction industry in which all our businesses operate poses significant safety challenges but we do not accept that people will inevitably be injured while working for us or with us. Our ultimate goal is to have zero injuries through the effective management of safety in all our operations.
Our Safety Principles
Underpinning this goal are two fundamental Safety Principles:
- All accidents are preventable
We believe that all injuries and occupational illnesses are preventable. We are all responsible for preventing and correcting unsafe behavior or work conditions.
- No repeat occurrences
Reportable accidents and high potential near misses will be investigated to determine what happened and why. All necessary steps will be taken to prevent recurrence.
These Safety Principles define our safety culture, behaviors and performance standards and, in so doing, assist us in our progress towards eliminating injuries in our workplace.
Our Safety Policy
Our managers and supervisors are accountable for the safety of our people and to provide effective leadership in safety. Management of every business or operation is responsible for following the Safety Principles and implementing and maintaining industry safety standards. However, all our employees are responsible for good safety behavior and it is only by working together and recognizing that we all have a part to play in safety that we will really make a difference.
McKinney Drilling Company was one of 44 member companies to receive a 2016 National Safety Excellence Award from ABC - Associated Builder and Contractors as a Specialty Contractor in the 500,001 – 1,000,000 man-hours category. Winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum and Gold status in ABC's Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) in 2016. McKinney qualified based on their Gold STEP Award status, through the Winston-Salem district’s involvement with the ABC Carolinas Chapter. The criteria for this award is continuous growth of our safety culture as evidenced by leading indicator use, process and program innovations, as well as lost workday case rates and total recordable indicator rates, and a video interview conducted by members of ABC’s national Environment, Health and Safety Committee.
